Why are essential oils better for you?Central oils may yield certain health benefits. "The olfactory system includes all physical organs or cells relating to, or contributing to, the sense of smell. Airborne molecules inhaled through the nose or mouth are carried to the lungs and interact with the respiratory system. Thus, inhaled essential oils can affect the body through several systems and pathways." "During inhalation, odor molecules travel through the nose and affect the brain through a variety of receptor sites, one of which is the limbic system, which is commonly referred to as the "emotional brain." The limbic system is directly connected to those parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, and hormone balance. This relationship helps explain why smell often triggers emotions. Knowing this, the inhalation of essential oils may have very profound physiological and psychological effects!

What is the best way to extend my candle life? For best results, burn at least 2 hours at a time. This allows the melt pool to fully reach the side, preventing uneven wax. Before every burn (except the first), make sure the wick is trimmed to 1/4th of an inch so the flame burns correctly. Always burn in a safe place away from children, hanging plants, curtains and pets. Avoid fans, vents or direct access to air currents and place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Don't forget, the jars are reusable! Made of environmentally friendly and chemical free ceramic, the jars can be wiped and re-used for storage or decor around your work or home.

Why is coconut wax safer? Our candles are made with coconut wax- a sustainable, non-GMO, clean burning and non-toxic preferred option. Coconut wax also has a longer burn time than other candles made from paraffin or soy wax, giving you more hours to enjoy it. Most candles are made from paraffin, a petroleum byproduct. To create paraffin wax candles, petroleum waste is chemically bleached, deodorized and made into wax. When burned, it can release toxic volatile organic compounds into the air, including carcinogens like alkenes. Soy wax, an alternative to paraffin wax and widely used for many candles are made from 96% genetically- modified (GMO) soy beans. There is also a huge amount of pesticides and other chemicals being used in soybean farming which may stay with soy when processed. Many soy candles add palm oil to make them firm/hard or so they don't melt in the summer heat. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) expresses the effects on using palm oil on the planet the best: "Sadly the increased use of Palm oils/products has caused a rush in plantations which has meant the massive destruction of forests. This in turn has effected many animals, including the orangutans." These same studies show that when soy and paraffin candles are burnt, they release formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, toluene, benzene and acetone, carcinogens that can lead to cancer and other health problems.

Why did you decide to include poetry on the candles?"Poetry is above all a concentration of the power of language, which is the power of our ultimate relationship to everything in the Universe." — Adrienne Rich What you speak, you become. What you think, you believe. The words we put into our minds may impact our reality and the words we say to others may impact theirs. The same is true for the words we read, which affect our thoughts and emotions. Poetry often hits our emotions first, as true art does. When feelings are touched before the mind, it can change us on a molecular level. In short, poetry has the power to alter your state of being.
